| Following on from the success of our TI Maths Scholarships, this year we announced a new initiative to help develop mathematical skills and reward pupils and their schools for addressing a global issue such as climate change, with an innovative mathematical solution.
We invited schools to assemble a team of between 3 and 5 pupils to take the challenge and address a topical global issue that affect us all. TI believes that mathematics is at the heart of education and can be used in innovative ways to find solutions. Teams were asked to justify their methods, strategies and make appropriate arguments to prove their mathematical reasoning.
Following judging of entries, four teams were selected to attend a National Finals day at the TI offices in Northampton and showcase their work. The author Simon Singh also attended to set additional puzzles challenges. Finally, each team was set a number of tasks to complete using TI-Nspire handhelds.
Congratulations go to all teams that attended (details below). The winning team's school will receive a class-set of TI-Nspire handhelds and the team will showcase their work on the TI stand at the BETT exhibition in January 2008.
We will be running the TI Maths Team Challenge next year and will invite teachers to register their teams of year 10s and 11s from May 2008.
