NUMB3RS - WE ALL USE MATHS EVERY DAY

Texas Instruments, in partnership with the US TV network CBS and working in association with the US National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), has created an exclusive set of educational activities based on the hit crime drama "NUMB3RS", which uses the strapline “We All Use Maths Every Day”. These activities promote the many uses of mathematics and support maths teaching. They have been developed for teachers and learners and are based on the mathematics presented in each episode. The third series is now being shown every Monday night on ITV3 which can be viewed via Freeview on Channel 10, cable on Channel 116, satellite on Channel 119 and free online at itv.com.

Activities will be available to download here the week before the episode is broadcast – remember to check in every week for new activities.

NUMB3RS is based on real FBI cases. Mathematics consultants work with the NUMB3RS team throughout production to ensure that the mathematics used to help analyse and solve crimes is real and accurate as depicted by FBI agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) who recruits his mathematical genius brother Charlie (David Krumholtz) to help the FBI to solve a wide range of challenging crimes.

The TI NUMB3RS activities were specifically designed to help learners (and their parents) realise how relevant mathematics is to everyday activities and understand the importance the subject plays in their future success. By linking the mathematics used within each episode of NUMB3RS to classroom activities for teachers, teachers can increase learner interest with these real-world, functional examples. Each activity has been derived from the mathematics used in the TV show and created by practicing classroom teachers and mathematicians especially for learners at age 15 and above.

About the Programme
NUMB3RS is a drama about an FBI agent who recruits his mathematical-genius brother to help solve a wide range of challenging crimes in Los Angeles. The two brothers take on the most confounding criminal cases from a very distinctive perspective. Inspired by actual events, the series depicts how the confluence of police work and mathematics provides unexpected revelations and answers to the most perplexing criminal questions. A dedicated FBI agent, Don Eppes couldn't be more different from his younger brother, Charlie Eppes, a brilliant mathematician who since he was little, yearned to impress his big brother. Despite their disparate approaches to life, Don and Charlie are able to combine their areas of expertise and solve serious crimes.
