Students use their understanding of integers, fractions, decimals, and operations to find mathematical expressions that equal one-half.

    		Distribute the page to the class.

    Follow the activity procedures:
  • Express one-half in several different ways - using different situations, whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Find different names for one-half
  • Use a calculator to record as many names for one-half as possible
  • Compare the expressions and separate them into categories
  • Select one of your categories and write more expressions that fit that category
  • Describe a real-life situation for one category

    		After the Activity

  • Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
