Activity Overview

Students learn to read simple picture graphs with the help of a calculator.

Before the Activity

  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 51 - 54 from the attached PDF file for your class

    		During the Activity

    		Distribute the page to the class.

    Follow the activity procedures:
  • Collect student vote data for a picture graph
  • Place the data in groups of 5, 8, 10, and 20 and find the effect the groups make on the graph
  • Use the constant function on the calculator and manipulatives (color tiles) to read and analyze simple picture graphs

    		After the Activity

  • Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
