Students learn to compare numbers. They generate patterns using repeated addends and different starting points.

Before the Activity

    		During the Activity

    		Distribute the page to the class.

    Follow the activity procedures:
  • Discuss how to repeatedly add 2's, 3's, and 4's
  • Use the calculator to track adding 2 over and over
  • Generate sequences using repeated addends and color them in the hundreds chart
  • Start at different points to generate more patterns
  • Analyze and compare the patterns formed

    		After the Activity

  • Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
