Activity Overview |
|
Students learn the definition of these terms: the sign of a number, numbers of opposite sign, and absolute value. They examine sets of positive and negative integers and zero. They also review ordering and additive inverse property, and learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers.

|
|
During the Activity |
|
Distribute the printed pages to the class.
Follow the activity procedures:
Given two objects on the positive and negative side of the y axis, find the distance between the objects
Use multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting signed numbers to solve problems
Solve problems to determine if the result is positive, negative, or zero
Observe that the product of a positive and negative number is negative
Understand that the product of two negative numbers is positive
Observe that division rules use multiplication as the inverse operation
Find the absolute value of a number
Solve additional problems
