Activity Overview

In this activity, students use the CellSheet Application to determine the missing value in a weighted mean. They use the application to write a formula to find the weighted mean and also learn to use the copy and paste features.

Before the Activity

  • Set up the CellSheet on the calculator using the TI Connect™
  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 11 - 18 from the attached PDF file for your class

    		During the Activity

    		Distribute the pages to your class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:
  • Open the CellSheet Application on the calculator and create a new spreadsheet
  • Enter the assignment type, corresponding score for the assignments, and weight of each assignment in separate columns
  • Enter three test scores leaving the fourth test score blank
  • Enter the formula for weighted value of each assignment (score for an assignment multiplied by the weight of an assignment)
  • Enter different scores for the fourth test
  • Find out the test score that will result in a specified overall grade

    		After the Activity

    		Students will complete the worksheet and answer questions. Review student results:
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
