Activity Overview

In this activity, students examine the size, mass, and growth rates for three species of fish. They interpolate and extrapolate from best-fit models. Students compare the growth rates of endothermic and exothermic animals.

Before the Activity

  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 89 - 95 from the attached PDF file for your class

  • During the Activity

Distribute the pages to your class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:
  • Enter values of size and mass of each of the three fish species
  • Graph the data for each type of fish
  • Compare the growth rates
  • Understand factors that lead to difference in growth rates

    After the Activity

Students will complete Student Data Collection and Analysis Sheet.

    Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
