Activity Overview

In this activity, students simulate a Punnett square of a cross between two heterozygous individuals and produce a histogram. They compare actual and expected results of genetic crosses.

Before the Activity

  • Print pages 41 - 50 from the attached PDF file for your class

    		During the Activity

    		Distribute the pages to your class.

    Follow the Activity procedure:
  • Simulate a cross between two heterozygous individuals
  • Generate 200 random integers from 1 to 2 that represent genes of heterozygous parents
  • Plot a histogram of offsprings with different combinations of genes
  • Determine the pattern for this and other types of crosses
  • Compare the predicted values and the actual numbers


    		After the Activity

    		Students will complete Student Data Collection and Analysis Sheet.

    Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
