Activity Overview

This activity has the students derive the formula for finding the area of a regular polygon. Demonstrating the procedure of constructing a regular polygon in front of the class maybe necessary depending on the students prior experience

Before the Activity

Students should have access to either the TI-83 or TI-84 family of calculators.

During the Activity

Students derive the formula for finding the area of a regular polygon.

After the Activity

Review student answers:
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
