Activity Overview

Students will model data using a linear equation, interpret the slope and intercept values from a linear model, and identify a characteristic property of a substance.

Before the Activity

Students should have either TI-83 or TI-84 Plus calculator. The attached .pdf form should be printed, copied, and distributed to students.

During the Activity

Perform the procedures outlined in the printed .pdf form. Using the Vernier Dual-Range Force Sensor, students will be able to understand that density is a charateristic property of all substances.

After the Activity

Review student results: As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging. Re-teach concepts as necessary.
