Activity Overview

Students will use the Vernier EasyTemp© temperature sensor to determine the change in thermal energy for a given mass of ice, the heat of fusion of ice, and percent error.

Before the Activity

Students should have either TI-83 or TI-84 Plus calculator along with the Vernier EasyTemp©. The attached .pdf form should be printed, copied, and distributed to students.

During the Activity

Perform the procedures outlined in the printed .pdf form. Students will learn to use the Vernier EasyTemp© temperature sensor.

After the Activity

  • Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
