Activity Overview

Use the SciTools App to simulate a Punnett square. Make predictions about genetic crosses. Learn about the following concepts; genes, alleles, dominant alleles, recessive alleles, homozygous individuals, heterozygous individuals, phenotypes, and genotypes.

Before the Activity

Students should have either a TI-83 or TI-84 Plus along with SciTool application. The attached .pdf form should be printed, copied and distributed to students.

During the Activity

Perform the procedures outlined in the printed .pdf form including the creation of list L1 and L2. Students will learn through data analysis how to determine percentage of offspring who will be either homozygous dominant or deterozygous dominant.

After the Activity

  • Review student results
  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
